PKK AIR DEFENSE UNITS FIRE AT TURKISH BOMBERS

“Power in defense of freedom is greater than power in behalf of tyranny and oppression.”
~ Malcom X.

An air defense unit of the People's Defense Forces (Hêzên Parastina Gel--HPG) defends Kurdistan from hostile Turkish aircraft on a bombing mission, from Firat News:

Stills from the video, from Özgür Gündem:

Who is it that defends Kurdistan? PKK, that's who. End. Of. Discussion.

Alas, the fact that the Turks are bombing during the day shows that they are confident that the Kurdish air-defences are not much of a threat (I have also seen footage of helicopters, though I am not sure that they were actually flying over Kurdistan). Does the HPG not have any MANPADS like Russian 'Strelas'? Surely these are available in the region?

When is the last time any Turkish aircraft was actually shot down?

We will survive and we will get there and we will prevail. It is surely a matter of time.

I wish that Mr. Barzani and Talabani watched this defense by the guerillas so that they may have some faith and confidence in their Peshmerga fighters. If I remember, correctly, both of them condemn the bombings but instead of their Peshmerga, they ask USA to stop Turks of bombings! These leaders are just a bunch of jokers; I do not think they could lead even the sheep’s in Kurdistan Mountains never mind the Kurdish people. If any leader in the west acted like them, surely, they would have been kicked out of the office right away but these morons should be thankful to their feudal society and uneducated, scared, not informed people in South Kurdistan (Northern Iraq). How a person who have five wives and cannot even read or write, become the top leader of South Kurdistan? I wonder if Talabani or Barzani ever got anything for the Kurdish people. They have made Kurds to suffer at least two genocides in the hand of Saddam (Anfal and Halepje), they have fought against each other and with the PKK to cause massive killings amongst themselves. I can not continue because when I start think about these so-called leaders in the South Kurdistan I just get sick and angry. Both of them many times during the last 8 years sworn to the Kurdish people that there will be no bloodshed between the Kurdish parties ever again. What are wrong Mr. Barzani and Mr. Talabani what happen to you both? Don’t you consider helping and letting your enemy to kill your blood brothers, as contradicting your own ought?

Well, VS, if you have any spare strelas laying around, or if you know of someone who does, I'm sure PKK would be willing to do business. In the meantime, they will use what they have.

Remember, what goes up must come down . . . sometime, somehow.

As for when the last aircraft was shot down, I'd have to dig and dig for that info. However, Turkish helicopters were brought down in the 1990s. It would be really beautiful, though, to see one of Lockheed Martin's products blown out of the sky.

As Srusht says, it's only a matter of time . . . before one comes down. Hehehe . . . then watch the Turks go ape.

Hamo, I have the feeling that the only hope is going to come from the North--DTP and PKK. But go check Rastbej for his ideas about what is to be done.
